Houseplant of the month: Regal Pelargonium

The houseplant of the month for March is the Regal Pelargonium, a plant which is also known as Pelargonium Grandiflorum.  The Regal Pelargonium is identified by its large colourful flowers with six petals, which grow in bunches.  Its bright green leaves give off a wonderful scent, opposed to the Geranium flowers.

Brought from its natural habitat in Southern Africa in around 1600 by ships from the Dutch East India Company, the plant was taken from the Cape of Good Hope to Europe where it was introduced to a number of botanical gardens.
